We hear so much these days about eating organic foods. But as a mom with a budget, it’s a challenge to only buy organic because it usually costs more. Why? And what are the benefits of buying organic?
Organic produce contains fewer pesticides so we have less residue to wash off our foods. After all, the best nutrients are usually in the skins or peels.
Organic farming is better for the environment. Since it doesn’t use pesticides, it’s better for animals and birds who live in the area as well as nearby neighbors. It also helps to keep the soil fertile and uses less energy for farming.
Organic foods are usually fresher because it doesn’t have all the preservatives that make foods last longer in the stores.
One of my favorite reasons is the animals who are organically raised are not given growth hormones or antibiotics. They are also given more room to move around and that helps to keep them healthy as well.
Some of the organic foods in your grocery store may be grown or raised locally as well which helps the local economy. Even if your local store doesn’t carry local produce, you can usually find it at local farmers markets in the spring, summer and fall.
We should all be trying to do more to make ourselves and our families healthier. Our lives are so busy and rushed today that we take too many shortcuts (myself included) that are affecting our health.
Let’s make a commitment today to do one thing that will help the environment and our families be healthier. I know when I will be stopping by one of our local markets to buy my apples today!
If you have found value here, please share it with your friends and family. And stay tuned for more!
Have a great and blessed day,
